Opening up and Trying New Things
Disclaimer: this post is half post and half grandma brag. I mean look at that hopeful and excited face! Luke is grandson #5 and he started preschool today. Luke will attend preschool down the hall from where his dad teaches, and when you ask him where he is going to pre-school, he proudly says without any hesitation that he goes to “Glencoe High School”. In fact, some of Jeff’s students are in the pre-teaching program and will be Luke’s teachers. Sometimes they will even get to have lunch together. It really seems like the perfect situation, and yet as with any change or new endeavor there is understandably a little bit of fear, anxiety and concern.
Anytime we try new things, there some fear or hesitation. The number one job of our brains is to keep us safe and the brain doesn’t know the difference between a tiger on the prowl and the new experience of preschool in the safest environment ever, it sends the same signals of fear and anxiety. But you know what? Learning to recognize the thoughts we have can put us in charge of our brains. We get to be the boss of our minds and thoughts. We can learn to feel all of the feelings and do growth and new experiences anyway.
Fear or anxiety doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. In fact, our lives can be more abundant and joyful when we lean in… and do the things we want to do… the things that scare us most. Life Coaching is a way to understand what your mind is telling you, so you can make the decisions you want to make.
