Experiment and Explore

I was working with a colleague on building my business.  I was feeling a little stuck and really not sure what to do next.  We were just chatting, when she asked me an interesting question…”What does the next 6 months of work look like for you?”  Of course I was sort of threatened by the question… I’d already told her I didn’t know… but  I spent some time writing and once I put a pen to paper, the ideas started flowing. I woke up at 3:00 am and added a few more that came to me.  The week before, I had felt stuck in “I don’t know what to do” and the simple act of  asking a future focused  question, and writing an answer (not concerned if it was “right” or not) opened up something creative  in me.  Suddenly, I had lots of ideas, and directions to go.  Isn’t that interesting?  What made the change in me? I know it had to be in me because I didn’t read anything new, or talk to anyone else, nothing changed ….. except me.

How often do we tell ourselves that we are stuck, or that we don’t know what to do?  It isn’t ever true.  Taking a step forward, even a small step can shine a bit of light, energy and creativity into any problem you are tackling.  I have this favorite quote on my website:

“Begin, the rest is easy” - George Jenkins

Our minds have an initial reaction to shut down if there is perceived danger.  Danger can be real or imagined, physical or emotional. But if we begin . . . . and let that first ray of light in, that first idea that will lead to other ideas and new creative openings will come.  We just have to be willing to give it all a try.  To live with the possibility that we are wrong in our belief that we are “stuck”, that we can’t solve it, that we don’t know.  We have to hold the possibility that our problems are  “figureoutable” (Thanks for this word Marie Foleo!)  Perhaps we do have the answers within us?  The power to create anything.  Could it possibly be?

Yup… I know this is possible.  Life Coaching can help!
