Tied for First Place!

SPARKLERS!

Last night of Grammie Camp . . .

Just finished my annual Grammie camp and boy …. We hit it hard!  A trip to San Francisco for the older girls… for the four boys fishing, surfing, pickleball..   On the last night… I was laying in the hammock with Harry, waiting for the sun to go down so we could light some sparklers. Harry looked up at me and said “Grammie-this was so fun, I think you are tied for first place as my favorite Grandma”

I couldn’t help but laugh … with every one of my tired, tired bones.  I cherish this comment, not only because I really do love and respect his other grandma and think she is a great person to be tied with, but also because it reminds me that actually, we are all tied for first.  When it comes to love of others, and love of ourselves there isn’t a pecking order.  Love is love.  It is something that is in us that we give, not something that is earned by good deeds, big weekends or exciting grammie camps.

"Love is such a powerful force. It’s there for everyone to embrace-that kind of unconditional love for all of humankind. That is the kind of love that impels people to go into the community and try to change conditions for others, to take risks for what they believe in.”

Corretta Scott King

That is the beauty of it.  We create it and embrace it from within ourselves.  We can apply this powerful force anywhere in our lives and it will help us move forward. Hopefully we feel it toward ourselves the most.  It is available to us anytime.

I started Grammie Camp because I wanted to create experiences and memories with my cute grandchildren that they would always remember.  So that they would know me and so that I could create relationships with them that would help them know I am a person they can count on. I wanted to get to know them better.   All these goals…  Now I realize that what I really want is for them to feel my love.

To know that they are also tied for 1st… always.

Sending you all the love!
