Hurricanes and tropical storms

We had quite an exciting weekend last week.  Predicted hurricanes and high winds had everyone rushing around. Peter ran to the store for a few things (unrelated to emergency prep) and texted me saying he was 32nd in line to check out.  As we watched the panic ensue, we kept asking ourselves if we were “prepared enough”?  Should we cancel our plans?  In the end, we decided to adopt a wait and see attitude and the storm came and went without too much incident.

On Monday morning, I called my daughter to see how they fared.  She said all was well, except for her boys room.  For reasons only a 9 year old and 11 year old could define,  they opened the window (wanting to hear the rain) and turned on their overhead fan and promptly fell asleep.  The noise and commotion during the night caused her to check on them and she couldn’t believe her eyes.  Water everywhere, books ruined, floor wet, curtains a complete loss, all while they slept soundly.

I keep thinking about how we all respond to the hurricanes that almost constantly flow through our lives.  Do we run around in a panic?  Do we open the windows and let it in and cause damage to our rooms?  Do we hunker down and close ourselves off to others who may be able to help? Do we have a safe harbor? Life hurricanes come in all shapes and sizes.

The question is, how are you responding?  Is that response still working for you?

Life coaching can help.  Always.
