Connections

I woke up this morning, in Hawaii, thinking about connections.  It started with the smell in the air, which reminded me of Kindergarten, when I lived here and although I don’t remember too much about that time, the smell of plumeria and sunshine bring me right back to such a happy place.

We’ve been here with some of our favorite old friends, I mean friends from before we had children, friends that have been around since 2nd grade.  While we haven’t seen them in a few years, the connection was instant.  We have had so much fun, visiting, laughing, snorkeling, playing around and eating, eating, eating.  This morning, I ran into the idea again as we did a yoga class and the teacher said it was a practice to help connect us to our bodies and disconnect from our minds for a bit.

This idea of connection is important in our lives and it is everywhere.  But here is the interesting thing… connection is a feeling that we create with our thinking.  It is easy to think that we feel connection when others share that feeling with us.  We usually think that others are making us feel a certain way.  This goes for both good and bad feelings.

But the truth is, it is our  own thinking that creates our feelings . . . every … single .... time. When I feel connected to my friends or places I’ve been, it is because I have thoughts about them.  Thoughts that are bringing me joy and helping me create some beautiful memories this week.  I like to think we are all connected in big and small ways, it makes me feel hopeful.  It makes me hope you are also creating some goodness for yourself!

Let me know if you want to learn more or if I can help.

Aloha!
