Artists of the Everyday
I have a wonderful book that I reflect on often, it is called Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach. Each day there are beautiful writings, thoughts, ideas about how to approach life with abundance. You know how sometimes you read something and it resonates with your soul? Today’s reading was that for me. Here is an excerpt, a quote from St. Francis of Assisi who explains:
“The woman who works with her hands only is a laborer; the woman who works with her hands and her head is a craftswoman; the woman who works with her hands, her head, and her heart is an artist”.
I just love this. When we put our whole heart into something (as well as our hands and minds) we become artists. Whether this is calming a tantruming 2 year old, teaching, making a difference in our businesses, loving our people, fixing a meal… art can be found.
The world may not acknowledge this art, but we can see it in each other. I’ve seen it in so many of the brilliant women around me, doing their work with passion and heart. If you are looking for it in others, you can also find it in yourself.
It only takes a few minutes, before you begin each task today, to breathe and acknowledge to yourself that you are unique with talents, intelligence and heart that is unique to you. How can you bring yourself to your work today?
Today, I’m creating art.
